for beautiful & lush hair naturally
Traditionally, beautiful lush hair has always been a symbol of beauty but more importantly, of health. Ayurveda recommends working from the inside out to bring health and balance to your scalp & hair. Ayurveda’s whole-body approach can be infinitely more effective than superficial hair treatments alone.
Usually hair loss is a sign of excess Pitta which also leads to excess Vata.
Causes of hair loss
Stress
Poor nutrition
Hormonal imbalances (Thyroid, PCOs...)
Harsh chemicals in shampoo & haircare
Excessive exposure to sun
Overuse of heat styling
Cigarettes, drugs, alcohol
Inadequate sleep
Unhealthy & irregular lifestyle
How to improve your hair from the inside out
In Ayurveda, hair is a by-product of the bone tissue (asthi dhatu) and it is also linked to the central nervous system and gut. This means any weakness in the bone tissue, nervous system and digestive system will naturally result in hair loss or diminishing hair growth.
Any imbalances in your body & mind type (doshas) will lead to physiological imbalances visible in your hair structure.
Vata is a combination of Air + Space - DRY HAIR
Hair type: thin, dry, rough, frizzy, brittle, porous, unruly, grows quickly
Vata imbalances: Dandruff, breakage, excessive dryness, split ends, lusterless, hairfall (in clumps), shorter
Pitta is a combination of Fire + Water - SENSITIVE HAIR
Hair type: Moderate strength and thickness, straight but very fine
Pitta imbalances: Excessive heat can damage the hair leading to receding hairlines, hair thinning, premature greying, inflamed scalp, redness
Kapha is a combination of Water + Earth - OILY HAIR
Hiar type: Thick, lustrous, coarse, strong, slightly oily hair
Kapha imbalances: The excess oil blocks the follicles of your scalp, which leads to wet and sticky dandruff along with heaviness.
Focus on gut health
Focusing on the gut health, i.e. what you consume is a crucial aspect of hair health.
Eating a wholesome diet with freshy and homemade food and minimizing processed foods will work wonders in improving your hair health.
There are a number of nutrient-rich foods that are especially supportive of hair health:
Soaked & peeled almonds
Fresh coconut
Walnuts & cashew nuts
Pumpkin seeds
Amla - juice or powder
Protein rich foods
Green leafy vegetables
Avoid refined sugars, ice-cold drinks and foods, leftovers, packaged foods and deep-fried foods.
External hair treatments
Hair growth mask
Amla pacifies pitta, helps to remove excess heat from the head, protects the color and luster of the hair, and serves to prevent excess hair loss.
2 tablespoons amla powder
2 tablespoons shikakai powder
4 tablespoons coconut milk or water
Other ingredients for hair mask:
Fenugreek powder
Tulsi powder
Aloe Vera powder or gel
Hibiscus powder
Method:
Mix the powders with water to get a smooth, consistent paste.
Apply this paste as a hair mask to your hair and scalp. Once your scalp and hair are fully covered, leave the mask on for about 30 minutes.
Wash your hair with cool water. If you have relatively clean hair, you can skip shampooing as shikakai has cleansing properties.
Use this once a week for best results.
