Why Turmeric is the best skincare ingredient

Updated: Aug 9, 2022

There are very few ingredients that span across multiple categories - food, beauty, medicine - and Turmeric is such an ingredient. Called haldi or haridra, this bright spice has been linked to healing and purifying properties for thousands of years and research now proves it.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. It is heavily used in Indian cuisine and as an Ayurvedic consultant, Turmeric is one of the main herbs I prescribe to my clients, but did you know that it also makes wonders for the skin? The anti-inflammatory properties of Turmeric work on the pores and calms the skin. It is also known to reduce scarring and heal wounds faster due to its antiseptic qualities. It also improves skin quality and impart a golden hue to the complexion.

Turmeric contains curcuminoid pigments which help the body in synthesizing antioxidants. These antioxidants protect the skin cells from free radical damage and can even slow down the signs of ageing.

Turmeric has been reported to help with acne, eczema, psoriasis and many more skin issues.

More surprisingly, Turmeric can also be used for sprains, strains, bruise and itch.

I am obsessed with Turmeric and 3 of my products contain Turmeric!
